I have been contacted by an inside staff member from the SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada). The SSHRC is the government organization that has given a grant to York University to host the June 22nd Conference on “Israel/Palestine: mapping models of statehood and prospects for peace”. This employee wishes to remain anonymous but she has given me some important information that could sway the councils intentions on weather to withdrawal the funding of the conference.

According to the employee, at the time the University requested this grant, the agenda of the conference was very different from the agenda we see today. She further explained that as students at York University, we should be expressing our concerns regarding this event to the SSHRC and persuade them to withdraw their funding.

Please contact Bryde Kelly in the SSHRC Office and express your concerns and disappointment in the Canadian Government for funding such an event. Rather then just talking about your concerns as individuals, talk about your concern as a student/Canadian citizen and how this is not an environment that you want to see on your campus.

Be sure to talk about how the conference is one sided and include Holocaust deniers!
